Finished porcelain patio in a landscaped British garden

Patios

Patios laid to suit how you use the garden, with the base, levels and falls done properly so they stay flat and dry.

Laid to a fall so rainwater runs off
Slabs fully bedded on a compacted sub-base
Size and shape worked out with you on site

What affects scope

  • size and shape of the patio
  • slab type and size
  • levels, steps and the existing ground
  • access for barrows and materials

What to send first

  • Rough measurements of the space you want to cover
  • Any slabs, colours or styles you have seen and liked

Good fit when

  • you want a seating or dining area off the back of the house
  • an old patio has sunk, cracked or turned green and slippery
  • the garden slopes and needs a level area

Want a path joining the patio to the rest of the garden? That comes under our paving work.

A patio has to sit right against the house and the garden around it. We start by marking out the size and shape with you, looking at where the sun is during the day and how you will get to it from the back door. The ground is dug out, a compacted sub-base goes down and each slab is bedded so it sits firm with no rocking. The patio is laid with a gentle fall away from the house so rainwater runs off, and kept below the damp-proof course so the walls stay dry. Edges can be finished with a step or a border into the lawn, and the patio can tie in with new paths or landscaping around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What slabs can you lay?
We go through the choices with you when we come to measure, including colour, size and finish. The right slab depends on the look you want and how much upkeep you are happy with.
How long does a patio take?
A typical garden patio takes a few days, longer if there are steps or a lot of ground to dig out.
Why do some patios hold water?
Usually because they were laid dead flat or the base has sunk. Ours go down with a slight fall on a solid base so the water runs off.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Not all the time, as long as we can get into the garden. We agree access and where the materials will be dropped before we start.
